A WordPress Helpdesk That Answers From Your Pages Instead of Guessing

A WordPress Helpdesk That Answers From Your Pages Instead of Guessing

Support tickets do not wait for office hours. A visitor at 3am wants your return window, what a plan includes, or where the getting-started guide lives. If the only answer is “email us and wait,” you lose the sale, or you wake up to questions you already answered on a page somewhere.

A generic chatbot makes that worse when it invents policies. It sounds helpful, then it contradicts your shipping page, and you spend the morning cleaning it up.

Generatify ships a Helpdesk Agent for that gap: support that answers around the clock from your pages, products, and policies, surfaces popular topics on the widget home screen, and collects contact messages when a human still needs to step in. Pro connects to your own ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Kimi API key, so you pay the model provider directly instead of buying marked-up credits.

This post stays on the Helpdesk Agent. Generatify also has a Page Agent and other AI tools. Those are different jobs. For the full setup path, see How to set up an AI helpdesk on your WordPress site in 2026. For answer-only chat versus an agent that acts on the storefront, see why a chatbot bubble is not enough.

Why most WordPress “AI support” still guesses

Most floating widgets are a text box wired to a general model. It may have seen similar sites. It has not read your returns page, pricing table, or product FAQs unless you forced that grounding in.

That creates three familiar failures.

Answers that sound right and are wrong. Invented refund windows, plan limits, or “yes we ship there” when you do not.

No path to a human. The visitor hits a dead end in the bubble, closes the tab, and never fills your contact form.

No surface for questions you already know. Your inbox already lists the three topics people ask every week. A blank chat field makes them type those from scratch every time.

A WordPress AI helpdesk earns its keep when it answers from your material, shows those popular topics up front, and escalates cleanly when it cannot answer.

What the Helpdesk Agent actually is

Path in the plugin: Generatify > Settings > Agents.

The Helpdesk Agent is a front-end support widget with three tabs: home, message, and help. Product copy puts the promise simply: answers questions and surfaces help articles around the clock, so your inbox only gets what genuinely needs a human.

Verified behavior from the product page and docs:

  • Answers from your pages, products, and policies
  • Popular topics on the home screen of the widget
  • Contact mode that collects messages you can reply to
  • Always on (three in the morning included)
  • Escalates what it cannot answer

It does not browse and click the site for the visitor. That is the Page Agent. Helpdesk answers and routes. Keep them separate, and put them on opposite corners if you run both.

Home, Help, and Message tabs

Home tab. Set a greeting title, a short line under it for response-time expectations, and the label on the button that opens the message tab. On Pro, add up to three popular topic suggestions, each with a title, description, and URL. Point them at the three things people actually ask about. Point them at what your inbox already proves people ask. Someone opens the widget, sees those three topics, and taps instead of guessing.

Help tab. A list of articles you configure, each with a title, description, and URL linking to your own pages. Fill Help even if you use conversation mode. Some visitors would rather skim a page than ask, and a visible topic list shows what the agent knows about.

Message tab. Two modes:

ModeBehavior
contactShows a form that emails you
conversationOpens a live chat answered by AI

Contact mode is the human handoff. Submissions go to an address you set (defaults to your WordPress admin email). Use it for leftover questions after self-serve, or on a free install without a connected model.

Conversation mode is the 24/7 AI chat. It needs Pro and a connected provider. That is where the agent answers live questions from your site content instead of waiting for you to wake up.

Practical pattern: strongest FAQs on Home and Help, conversation for repeatable questions, contact mode for anything to refuse or escalate.

Grounding so it stops guessing

In conversation mode, the agent already knows the titles and links of every public page on your site. Pro adds a setting for up to three pages whose full content it can read.

Spend those three slots carefully. Shipping and returns, pricing, and a getting-started page usually answer more tickets than three deep feature pages. The docs say that outright.

Pro also lets you write custom instructions for language, tone, and rules. Be specific about refusals. “If you do not know, say so and offer the contact form” prevents more bad answers than another paragraph about tone.

That is the anti-guessing design: work from your material, link to your pages, hand off when the answer is not there.

Your own API key (and who this is for)

Generatify Pro plugs into your own ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Kimi account with an API key you supply. You can switch providers later. You pay the model provider directly for usage, with no AI markup in the DaftPlug price. The free version has no model connected, so use contact mode on free and still use Home and Help to route people to your articles.

Conversation mode burns tokens on real visitor questions. Contact mode and static help links do not. Turn conversation on after you have grounded the three full-content pages and written refusal rules.

Appearance settings cover position, button color, a large background image across the top of the widget, and a logo or favicon inside the widget. Defaults put the helpdesk on the right so it does not collide with the Page Agent on the left. Match the button to your brand and check corners on a phone.

From the Agents docs: the Helpdesk Agent answers questions directly, does not act on the site, needs a provider only in conversation mode, and fits sites with repeat support questions. Content, SaaS, membership, and service sites are the natural fit. If visitors mainly need to find a product and add it to the basket, lead with the Page Agent and keep helpdesk as the policy layer.

Generatify Pro is part of one DaftPlug membership. One Pro licence unlocks Generatify plus the rest of the Pro plugins, and new Pro plugins join existing memberships. Plans differ by site count. See pricing.

Launch checklist and bottom line

  1. Tidy the three pages you will feed as full content (returns, pricing, getting started, or your real top three).
  2. Fill Home greeting, tagline, and up to three popular topics with real URLs.
  3. Fill the Help tab with articles people already ask for.
  4. Start the message tab in contact mode while grounding content. Switch to conversation after Pro connectors and refusal rules are set.
  5. Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Kimi under Connectors.
  6. Park the widget opposite any other floating control and check it on a phone.

You do not need a developer. Install, activate, set the tabs, connect a key when you want live AI answers.

A WordPress AI helpdesk only helps if it answers from your pages instead of guessing, shows the popular topics you already know, and collects a real contact message when a human is required. Generatify’s Helpdesk Agent is built around those three jobs, runs around the clock, and uses your own model key on Pro so usage stays with the provider you chose.

Set Home and Help from your real inbox themes. Ground conversation mode on the three pages that close the most tickets. Keep contact mode ready for everything else. That is support that scales without inventing your policies at 3am.
