Generate Android and iOS App Store Bundles From Your WordPress PWA

A browser PWA covers home screen install without store gatekeeping. Then a client wants a Play Store listing, or a partner wants the App Store badge. “We have a PWA” is suddenly not enough.

You do not need a React Native rewrite. Progressify generates a no-code Android app bundle that is built and signed, prepares an iOS build for App Store submission, and produces store screenshots plus listing metadata from the same WordPress PWA.

This post is about store bundles only (not tab bars, push, or offline forms). For the baseline, see What is a Progressive Web App (PWA)?. For the broader path, see how to turn your website into Android and iOS apps without coding.

The problem: one site, three install expectations

Some visitors tap Add to Home Screen and never open a store. Others only trust Google Play. Others will not install anything outside the Apple App Store.

Ship only the browser PWA and you lose two of those groups. Ship separate native apps and you maintain three products. The middle path is one WordPress site with a solid Progressive Web App baseline (manifest, service worker, icons), then store packages that wrap that same experience. Progressify’s store path is one site, three install paths: browser PWA, Play, and App Store.

What Progressify actually ships for store builds

Stick to real features. No invented CI pipelines.

No-code Android app bundle, built and signed. You do not hand-roll Gradle. Progressify builds and signs the Android app bundle so you can submit to Google Play without a separate mobile team.

iOS build prepared for App Store submission. Apple still owns the review gate. Progressify prepares the iOS build so you can move into App Store Connect instead of starting from a blank Xcode project.

Store screenshots and listing metadata generated. Store listings die on empty screenshot slots and vague descriptions. Progressify generates screenshots and listing metadata from the site so you are not cropping phone frames by hand at midnight.

One site, three install paths. Browser PWA, Google Play, and Apple App Store, all pointed at the same WordPress experience.

Works with the Progressive Web App baseline. Manifest, service worker, and icons still matter. Store packages sit on top of a real PWA, not a naked theme URL.

White-label for client sites on Pro Plus and Pro Max. Agencies shipping client PWAs can white-label the experience on those plans instead of branding every install as DaftPlug.

Get the PWA baseline right before you hit Build

Store reviewers and browser install prompts both punish half-finished PWAs. Confirm HTTPS, ship a complete manifest (name, short name, start URL, display mode, theme colour, icons), keep a working service worker, and test Add to Home Screen on a real Android device and iPhone before you generate store packages. If browser install already feels broken, the store wrapper will not fix it. Progressify treats store builds as packaging on top of that baseline.

Android: signed bundle without a mobile repo

For Play Store, the pain is usually signing, packaging, and keeping the wrapper aligned with the live site. Progressify’s no-code Android path builds and signs the app bundle from your WordPress PWA settings. You stay in the plugin UI instead of maintaining a separate Android Studio project that someone forgets to update after every theme change.

Before upload, match package name and versioning to Play Console, keep icons and splash aligned with the PWA, test the signed build on a physical device, and have the privacy policy URL plus content rating questionnaire ready. The bundle alone does not fill Play Console forms for you.

iOS: prepared for submission, still Apple’s rules

iOS is stricter. Progressify prepares the iOS build for App Store submission. You still need an Apple Developer account, App Store Connect setup, and a review that passes Apple’s guidelines.

Do not promise yourself “one click and we are live on the App Store.” Promise “we are not starting from zero in Xcode.” That is the honest win.

Before you submit, have Bundle ID and signing ready in your Apple team, confirm the screenshot sizes App Store Connect wants this quarter, write listing copy that describes a real app job (not “mobile website”), and document privacy labels plus account deletion if you have logins or memberships.

Screenshots and listing metadata are half the conversion

People judge store pages in seconds. Empty screenshot slots and generic “best WordPress app” text convert poorly.

Progressify generates store screenshots and listing metadata from the site. Use that as a first draft: lead with the job (shop, bookings, member library), show the real UI after install, keep keywords honest. Then mirror the story on your marketing site: browser install for people who skip stores, store badges for people who only trust stores.

White-label when you ship client sites

On Pro Plus and Pro Max, Progressify supports white-label for client sites. Play listing, App Store listing, and browser install should look like the client’s product. Plan icons, splash, short name, and store description once, then reuse them across all three install paths.

Pitfalls that stall store launches

  1. Generating packages before the PWA baseline works. Fix manifest, icons, and service worker first.
  2. Treating Play and App Store as identical. Signing and review cultures differ.
  3. Skipping real-device QA. Emulators miss safe-area and keyboard issues.
  4. Letting the live site and the wrapper diverge. Do not bolt on one-off native screens you cannot maintain.
  5. Ignoring browser install. Many visitors never open a store. Keep the PWA path healthy after listings go live.

How this fits DaftPlug Pro

Progressify is one of five Pro plugins on a single membership. One licence unlocks Progressify (PWA), Lightify (performance), Generatify (AI), Rankify (SEO and GEO), and Snapshotify (backups). Plans differ by site count only: Pro $37.99/year (1 site), Pro Plus $74.99 (5), Pro Max $138.99 (100). Features are identical across plans. Checkout is Freemius, with a 14-day money-back guarantee. See pricing.

White-label for client sites is on Pro Plus and Pro Max. If you ship other people’s brands, pick the plan that matches site count and white-label needs.

Takeaway

Store presence is a distribution problem, not a reason to rebuild WordPress in a native stack. Get the Progressive Web App baseline solid, then use Progressify to generate a signed Android app bundle, prepare an iOS build for App Store submission, and produce screenshots plus listing metadata. One site. Three install paths. Browser, Play, and App Store, without maintaining three products.
